WhatsApp Introduces PiP Mode: Apple Users Can Watch YouTube Videos Within App

This feature is only for the iOS users at the moment and will soon be launching for Android versions as well. Earlier tapping on the video link would redirect users to the YouTube page of the video. WhatsApp was extensively working on this idea and investigating ways to make watching YouTube videos within its chat-app.

The new app enables users to download videos, and focuses on controlling mobile data consumption. After that you will be able to open and watch YouTube videos without leaving WhatsApp. The YouTube Go app also allows you to download your favorite videos from the website to your phone's storage and then share it with your friends via Bluetooth or wifi-direct. With the update, smartphones are about to become very much like computers making it easier to work on multiple apps at once and not be limited to just one app at a time. The best part is you can minimise the video in Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode within WhatsApp itself and can chat with others. Sliding it towards the padlock button will let them remove their fingers from the screen while continuing recording voice messages. To record a message, users no longer need to keep the "Record" button pressed for the duration of the audio message.

Currently, Youtube Go has been made available to only India and Indonesia but chances are that Google will be announcing it for more regions. Over the past few months, WhatsApp, the most popular instant messaging app in the world, has taken the lead by regularly adding new features on its app across Android and iOS.

The update can be downloaded from the App Store, description of which reads, "When you receive a link to a YouTube video, you can now play it right within WhatsApp". Well, chances are that the WhatsApp is rolling out the feature in a phased manner - and you'll get the app eventually - probably in the next couple of days.
