But for the iPhone X, Apple's fix bills are more expensive than ever. Based on its tests, DisplayMate declares the iPhone X the "Best Performing Smartphone Display", earning its highest ever A+ grade.

The Apple X is the most crackable iPhone yet.

In a statement, Jason Siciliano, vice president and global creative director at SquareTrade said "Despite Apple's claims that their glass is the most durable ever in a smartphone, the iPhoneX is the most breakable iPhone we've ever tested".

Still, Samsung's Galaxy S8 is one of many Samsung products using the same type of screen and so far, there is no evidence of similar problems in that device.

The iPhone X has a giant screen, Face ID and no home button.

A drop on the phone's corner gave it only minor scratches, while a drop on the phone's front display produced a visible, but small glass fracture on the device's top-left side.

Side and Back Drop Tests: Remarkably, the side drop did the most internal damage to the phone. Once I turned off the screen, I noticed an additional hairline fracture running from the bottom left where the second scuff was nearly to the top of the phone. "We believe the metal frame of 2H18F iPhone models will be composed of more parts (iPhone X has four parts) for improving data transmission quality".

Another drop (of a fresh, undamaged iPhone X) cracked the front and back, but also damaged Face ID and stopped the new home screen gestures from working, making it impossible to leave the app now open.

Repairability: SquareTrade's Master Technician noted that the iPhone X has a thinner, more costly OLED screen that's more expensive to replace, a smaller logic board, multiple cables, and a split battery that's more hard to remove.

SquareTrade's iPhone X Breakability Test results. A cracked iPhone X screen will set you back $279. Or in other words, if you crack the back of your iPhone X it will cost $549 for Apple to fix it. Do you buy accidental damage insurance on your smartphones?
