Black Friday is also on the minds of the marketers at Amazon, Kohl's, Target, Best Buy, JC Penney, Costco, Macy's, Sam's Club, Sears and Kmart.

Hours: JC Penny has not yet announced its store hours, but deals will last November 23-Dec. 24. Black Friday hours will vary by location. This year, the deals become available at 6 p.m., the kickoff time Walmart used last year. Its stores will stay open until 10 p.m. the following day. Walmart is adding a color-coded map of store departments on its circulars in hopes of making it easier for customers to find items. Some stores will close at midnight or 2 a.m. on Friday and reopen at 6 a.m.

Office Depot and OfficeMax stores won't be open on Thanksgiving. There's one big benefit to Best Buy's offerings, though: According to its Black Friday ad, many of these deals will be available both in stores and online on Thanksgiving day.
