Unlocked HTC U11 Update to Oreo Rolling Out Today

Earlier this year, HTC confirmed that it will update the HTC U11 to Android 8.0 Oreo by the end of the year with rumors hinting that it's in final stages of development.

The Oreo update will bring considerable improvements to the U11, concerning the performance and battery life. According to HTC's Mo Versi, an update to Oreo is rolling out starting today for the unlocked U11. The update will be rolled out over-the-air (OTA) and should eventually reach all devices.

This upgrade means that U11 users will get all the Oreo-centric features that are part of the latest Android version. Android Oreo has other features like including Background limits, installation of apps via APK, over 60 new emojis, notification dots, Wide-gamut colour for apps, Snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation, WebView enhancements and much more. His post notably mentions that only the unlocked version of the HTC U11 will be receiving the promotion to Oreo starting from November 27. Nokia also dropped the Oreo update for the Nokia 8 a few days ago.

If you own an unlocked U11 in the Americas, check your phone for an update tomorrow, or check HTC's "Updates & Downloads" page for the U11 for details and download instructions. Running HTC Edge Sense user interface, the handset comes with 8 sensors on the sides to register the squeeze. The update includes reminders that prompt you for unfinished tasks such as emails in draft and messages, redesigned app shortcuts with long-press access to actions, and smart text selection that contextually recognises and suggests options based on selected text.
