Tunisia seals a spot in the World Cup

Tunisia have qualified for the World Cup in Russian Federation next summer after a goalless draw against fellow North Africans Libya was enough to to land a coveted place at the festival of football.

Morocco will make their first appearance at the global finals since France 1998, while Tunisia make their World Cup return for the first time since Germany 2006. Tunisia also booked their spot at Russian Federation 2018 with a tense 0-0 draw against Libya.

Morocco needed only a draw from their final Group C game to finish top of the standings in the African preliminaries, ahead of the Ivorians, who had to win to clinch a fourth successive World Cup finals appearance.

However, it was the visitors, who sealed an emphatic win as Dirar grabbed the opener in the 25th minute with after his tricky cross beat Sylvain Gbohouo, in goal for the Ivoirians.

The match witnessed several incidents involving Zaha, Doumbia, Serge Aurier against their opponents as tension heightened.

Meanwhile, Tunisia on Saturday booked their place in next year's finals after securing a point from a goalless draw at home against neighbors Libya.

The results: African zone: Group A: Tunisia 0 drew with Libya 0; Democratic Republic of Congo 3 (Sidibe 61-og, Bolingi 90+2, Kebano 90+3) bt Guinea 1 (Junior 71).

The violence that broke out late Saturday in central Brussels after the qualification of the Moroccan national football team for the next World Cup injured 22 police officers, police told Belga news agency.

Morocco completed the campaign without conceding a goal, finishing on 12 points, four ahead of the Ivorians.

Group B: Zambia 2 (Daka 26, Mwila 64) drew with Cameroon 2 (Zambo Anguissa 31, Banana 90+1).
