Trump says believes 'things will happen' on North Korea

Trump has long criticized the trade status between the United States and China as being one-sided.

"I think what he's saying is that China is pursuing its own national interests and you can't blame any country for doing that", Branstad said. "After all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens?"

In a show of the importance China puts on Trump's first official visit, Thursday's welcoming ceremony outside Beijing's Great Hall of the People overlooking Tiananmen Square was broadcast live on state television - unprecedented treatment for a visiting leader. Tillerson says: "There is a lot of work left to do".

North Korea doubled down on its promise to build nuclear weapons, despite global calls for it to stop. But he insisted that the two countries were on the same page.

The U.S. president alluded to those abuses in his speech, calling North Korea a "prison state" that starves its own people.

The Trumps were greeted with a standing ovation and a video featuring clips of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Trump's Florida estate in February and the USA president's ongoing two-day visit to Beijing.

"To keep opening up is our long-term plan", Xi said, announcing trade deals and agreements on shale gas, liquefied natural gas, industrial cooperation, vehicles, aircraft engines and other commodities worth an unprecedented $250 billion that had apparently been signed during the trip."We will foster an enabling environment for business communities including the USA and other countries", added Xi.

Such contract signings are a fixture of foreign leader visits to Beijing and are meant to defuse foreign complaints about China's trade policies. During the presidential campaign, he accused China of "raping our country" on trade and pledged to minimize the countries' trade imbalance.

Trump, during a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, said he had tremendous meetings earlier on trade, North Korea and opioids and that there were only warm feelings towards China.

The United States and other trading partners have been pressing Beijing to give their companies more access to its state-dominated economy. Previous U.S. administrations have hailed market-opening promises only to be left disappointed. Trump said misinterpreting the US's restraint for weakness would be a "fatal miscalculation" by North Korea, and he called on the worldwide community to implement the UN's strict sanctions on Pyongyang. That included urging China to fully implement U.N. Security Council resolutions aimed at depriving the North's government of revenue for its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

"China's great. No problem". He clapped and smiled as children waving USA and Chinese flags and flowers screamed and jumped wildly.

He then introduced a video of his granddaughter Arabella, the daughter of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, singing a traditional Chinese song in Mandarin.

"This morning, the two Presidents talked and held a joint press meeting".
