Trump condemns 'sick and deranged' driver after NY killings

Just over two hours after the attack took place, the president called the suspect a "very sick and deranged person," offering no condolences to families of the individuals who died.

"Law enforcement is following this closely", Trump tweeted.

"NOT IN THE U.S.A.!" he ended his first statement. The president's daughter and senior adviser, Ivanka Trump, tweeted that the news was "heartbreaking" and she was "praying for the victims". "God and your country are with you!" he said.

"My heart breaks for #NYC today".

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected", Sanders said in a statement.

Following a massacre in Paris in 2015, ISIS released a video that pictured suicide bombers and bombs alongside photos of Herald Square and Times Square in New York City.

According to NBC News, the terror suspect in Tuesday's vehicular attack is Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, who came to the U.S.in 2010 from Uzbekistan.

A witness who gave his name only as Frank told local television network NY1 that he saw a man running around an intersection, heard five to six gunshots and saw "about 100 cops" flood into the street.

More than a dozen people were hit when the driver of a Home Depot rental truck zoomed at least 10 blocks down a popular bike path from West Houston to Chambers streets in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.

His explosive device failed to detonate and he was arrested shortly after boarding a flight to the Middle East.

The incident is being investigated as a terror attack. He is in custody and has been taken to a NY hospital. The outlet reported he was shot in the rear end, but NY police commissioner James O'Neill said later that he was shot in the abdomen.

"These courageous men and women embody the true American spirit of resilience and courage".

NY officials said they know of no continuing threat linked to today's attack, but said security would be stepped up for the evening's Halloween parade.
