Trump calls for tougher immigration controls after NY attack

Trump hasn't said much of anything on bump stocks since October 5.

He signed it in private, suggesting he knows not to be proud of his actions: "President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed the repeal of a banking rule that would have allowed consumers to join together to sue their bank or credit card company to resolve financial disputes".

"The President spoke again on the same line that he has been talking about on tightening homeland security, immigration and travel procedures to the US".

Donald Trump responded to the deadly attack in NY in typical fashion on Tuesday, via Twitter. The FBI is investigating the case as a terrorist act. "We won't talk about that".

His recent attempts to institute a travel ban against majority-Muslim countries have repeatedly been blocked or limited by federal judges, showing that the White House does not have absolute power to restrict foreigners entering the U.S.

Shortly after the terrorist rammed a truck through a bike path, killing at least eight people and injuring 11 others, Trump responded by saying it "looks like another attack by a very sick and deranged person".

The terrorist suspect's identity has yet to be confirmed by police, but widespread reports citing law enforcement sources claim the suspect is 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov, an Uzbek native who gained legal status in the USA in 2010.

The terror attack in NY is the latest, but hardly the only, example of Trump as more pundit than President. "God and your country are with you!" It's stoked his interest in politics, informed him (sort of!) on policy and sharpened his natural instincts for attack and confrontation.

America must not let Islamic State jihadists return to or enter the U.S. after they are beaten overseas, President Donald Trump said Tuesday, hours after a deadly NY attack. "Being politically correct is good, but not for that!", Trump wrote.

NY was left devastated by another deadly terror attack after a driver ploughed a truck through crowds in lower Manhattan killing eight and injuring a dozen more.

Schumer criticized Trump for using the attack to score political points, then noted that the administration had proposed cutting the budgets of counter-terrorism programs. But the reality is more complicated.

Trump said he wants "a merit-based program" in its place. He adds in a subsequent tweet: "We are fighting hard for Merit Based immigration, no more Democrat Lottery Systems".

"We need quick justice and strong justice, much quicker and stronger than we have now". Because what we have right now is a joke and it's a laughing stock.

"We also have to come up with punishment that's far quicker and far greater than the punishment these animals are getting right now", Trump told reporters.

Officials said information about the incident was preliminary and said more information was to follow.

First, there was this: "The terrorist came into our country through what is called the 'Diversity Visa Lottery Program, ' a Chuck Schumer beauty".
