Travel advice for New York following the terror attack in Manhattan

Authorities are investigating the deadly truck attack that killed eight people on a bike path in Manhattan on Tuesday, turning attention to the driver's background and motivations and analyzing a note left in the truck at the scene of the attack.

Saipov, 29, was an immigrant from Uzbekistan who had lived in Florida, Ohio and New Jersey and worked as a commercial truck driver and an Uber driver, Hansi Lo Wang reports.

The statement said that the group were friends from the city of Rosario and were in New York for a school reunion, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their graduation from a Rosario polytechnic.

Saipov became a permanent US resident in 2010, entering the US with a green card under the Diversity Visa Program, according to ABC.

Netanyahu offered condolences to the families of the victims of the attack, which claimed the lives of eight people.

Independent Travel Expert, Frank Brehany, told Express.co.uk: 'The incident in New York City will send a chill across continents as a reminder of events here in Europe over the last 3 years'.

Officials said that, with his truck wrecked, Saipov jumped out and shouted "Allahu Akbar" - meaning "God is great" in Arabic - while brandishing what was later found to be a pellet gun and a paintball gun. "Being politically correct is fine, but not for this!" he added. That's the kind of bad thing you think is going to happen to you a protected bike path. Not this. But the investigation, a joint operation for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and New York's police department (NYPD), has just begun.

"Our only evidence to date is that this was an isolated incident that he, himself, performed", the governor said. Five Argentine citizens and a Belgian national were among the victims. (However, Schumer he was also a player in a 2013 immigration overhaul bill that would have eliminated the program). Officials who were not authorized to discuss the investigation and spoke on the condition of anonymity identified the attacker Saipov.

Donald Trump called for new restrictions on immigrants after the attack. The suspect, Sayfullo Saipov, bragged to police from his hospital bed about what he did. "We have to find out what happened here", de Blasio said on CNN Wednesday morning.

Authorities are also paying close attention to the note that was left inside the rental truck.

That changing tactic also means that trucks and vans - which were once seen as modes of transportation used to carry the weapons, like the truck bomb used in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing or the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing - are now being used as the weapons themselves.

London Mayor, Sadiq Khan in a statement said, "New Yorkers are strong and resilient - I know they will not be cowed by this assault on the innocent and on our shared values and way of life". Fears intensified this spring, when a speeding car jumped a sidewalk in Times Square, killing one person and injuring more than twenty others.

As its caliphate crumbles in the Middle East, ISIS has been encouraging its sympathizers in the West to stay in their home countries, directing them to carrying out low-tech terror attacks using vehicles.
