Title change at WWE SmackDown tapings in Manchester

Title change at WWE SmackDown tapings in Manchester

Previously, Styles held the WWE Championship for 140 days until losing it to John Cena in January at the Royal Rumble.

The following matches were taped earlier today in Manchester, England for tonight's WWE Smackdown television show.

The title change happened in Manchester during the filming for tonight's edition of Smackdown Live. There was a near fall where Styles got his foot on the ropes after Mahal hit the Khallas at one point, with Styles then winning the title cleanly with the Phenomenal Forearm. Stick around after Smackdown for my live thoughts on the "Nature Boy" documentary on Ric Flair that will air on ESPN at 9CT/10ET.

We're expecting official word from WWE to see whether or not Styles will indeed replace Mahal against Lesnar. The title change comes one day after Cesaro and Sheamus defeated Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins on Raw to become WWE Raw Tag Team Champions. Their feud will likely kick off there, culminating at Survivor Series. AJ says he's ready to go, ready to rock because this is what they do as professionals and professionally, he's ready to take the WWE Title from Jinder Mahal. And, yep, this means that Styles is headed to Survivor Series to face Brock Lesnar...at least for now.
