Southgate names uncapped trio in England squad

Abraham and Loftus-Cheek, who are both Chelsea players out on loan at Swansea City and Crystal Palace respectively, have broken into the Gareth Southgate's senior squad.

Twenty-year-old Abraham, who is also eligible to play for Nigeria, has played for England at Under-21, U19 and U18 level and was part of the England U21 squad for the European Championship earlier this year, scoring once in the tournament against Germany.

Abraham has scored four goals in ten games since joining Swansea on loan whilst Joe Gomez has been given his chance in a Liverpool side struggling at the back.

England on Thursday called up the uncapped Nigerian-born Tammy Abraham, Joe Gomez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, for their friendly matches against Germany and Brazil at Wembley this month.

Loftus-Cheek has made seven appearances for Palace who are managed by ex-Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson, this season and has made a notable impression despite the Eagles being bottom of the Premier League.

Explaining the return of 32-year-old Young, Southgate said: "His performances warrant it". His back-to-goal play is improving and so is his defensive work. There is also no place for Chris Smalling but his Manchester United teammate Ashley Young is recalled, while Jesse Lingard is included despite limping out of the Champions League win over Benfica.

The Three Lions will take on Germany and Brazil as they look to test themselves ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation.

" I don't know how you get in an England squad without getting in the Arsenal team".
