Second annual Veterans Day parade to be held Sunday in downtown

The park is located at the former West End Park on Columbia Street, which will be closed from 2-6 p.m.

Here's a look at some events, freebies and the forecast for Veterans Day Weekend. Parade goers can bring new, unwrapped toys to donate. Mayor Jake Windham spoke during the ceremony.

Also at 9 a.m. a Korean War Memorial Ceremony will take place at Jackson Square in Weymouth which will be followed by a parade to the Ralph Talbot Amphitheater for a re-dedication of the Veterans Memorial Wall. Veteran and American Legion Post 22 Commander Duane Fink describes the importance of Veterans Day to him and also says the Legion is set for a big Veterans Day Saturday.

Remembering the service and sacrifice of those who died in their efforts to keep America safe is the reason why the veterans hold their annual parade and memorial ahead of Veteran's Day. It'll be open to all veterans and of course Post members as well.

Another event taking place is a flag retirement ceremony at 5 6427 Evers Road in Leon Valley. A wreath-laying ceremony will be at Meetinghouse Park across from the courthouse to honor veterans of World War II, the Civil War and the Gulf War to present.
