Russian Federation unveils 2018 World Cup ball

Several heads were left being scratched on Thursday after Russian Federation used some hardcore techno beats in a dark auditorium decked out to look like an underground dance club to present the official 2018 World Cup ball.

Argentina superstar Lionel Messi unveiled the 2018 FIFA World Cup match ball-Telstar 18- at a glitzy event in Russian Federation, with several former stars like Zinedine Zidane and Xabi Alonso present.

It is pertinent to mention here, that the German sports giant is manufacturing balls for the World Cup since the 1970 tournament in Brazil. However those came from Western nations, and not the then Soviet Union.

Adidas has said little about Telstar 18 except that it is a modern interpretation of the original Telstar design used in 1970 and 1974 - golden years for Pele's Brazil and Franz Beckenbauer's West Germany.

The Telstar was the first ball to be decorated with black panels, changing the design of footballs forever.

Commenting on the new official match ball of the upcoming global football championship, legendary forward of Barcelona FC and the Argentinian national squad Messi said "I like all of it: the new design, the colors, everything".

The original "Telstar" ball was named after a US communications satellite, and its presence on the field of play in Russian Federation will be an ironic reminder of the dismal failure of the US Men's National Team to qualify for the tournament.

The competition will kick off on 14 Jun 2018 and end on 15 Jul 2018.
