Pokemon Go developers announce new mobile game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Yesterday we found out that Niantic, the developers of Pokemon Go, are collaborating with Warner Bros. and Portkey Games to release a Harry Potter AR game next year.

According to The Verge, "Harry Potter: Wizards Unite" will be based on the first AR mobile game popularized by Niantic Labs, "Ingress".

Remember the craze of Pokemon Go? A boat that had become particularly leaky in the last few days, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will turn players into real world wizards and witches in much the same way Niantic's megahit Pokemon GO turned players into IRL Pokemon trainers. Interactive Entertainment. "It is wonderful to have Niantic's remarkable augmented reality expertise as we develop this incredibly rich wizarding world for players to explore in their everyday lives". People can roam around their own vicinity for a magical experience, similar to what "Pokemon Go" players do in their real-world location to hunt down pocket monsters.

According to BBC, rumors circulated past year that a Harry Potter game was in the works, but it was eventually debunked. It has previously developed Lego-branded tie-in titles via its TT Games subsidiary as well partnering with Electronic Arts to create action-adventures that launched alongside the movies.

Details on the game are pretty scarce, so it's not clear what the game will involve or what its mechanics will be. On that same day, HBO will also be airing the entire series starting at 9:00 AM ET/PT with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and ending with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The working of the game is same as of Pokemon Go.

No other information on the game has been made available at this time.
