Packers teammate takes veiled shots at Martellus Bennett after release

Green Bay Packers tight end Martellus Bennett (80) looks at the scoreboard after Jordy Nelson (87) caught a touchdown pass against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, in Green Bay, Wis. Bennett was released by Green Bay on Wednesday after failing to disclose a physical condition.

According to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Packers waived Bennett because of a torn rotator cuff. They even gave me an xray as well. "Not that he was trying to get me to play thru it but the way he was saying things. I must be on the record talking about him about a hundred times". Now here we are. After trying to persuade me to play thru a major injury and me choosing to get surgery. My shoulder wasn't where it is now at the beginning of the season.

Bennett had practiced just once over the previous two weeks with the Packers and had not played since Week 7. In a series of posts to Instagram Live, Bennett took issue with the Packers' claim and with the care he received from team doctor Patrick McKenzie.

"The individual should talk about the specifics of his injury". I really don't have any comments on that.

When Packers coach Mike McCarthy was asked about cutting Bennett, he would not say if it had anything to do with Bennett's possible desire to retire.

The Packers had high hopes for Martellus Bennett, who signed a 3-year, $21 million contract with the team.

A powerful line-of-scrimmage blocker with five consecutive seasons of 50-plus receptions, Bennett provided fresh options to a potent offense.
