Multiple dead, multiple injured after incident in downtown Manhattan

He was running around Chambers and somebody started to chase him.

"I saw the vehicle crash so I ran up the bridge", a witness at the scene told PIX11's Myles Miller.

"Jesus! A vehicle just ran over 2 people and then crashed into a school bus". He had two guns.

The suspect was screaming while exiting the vehicle, Associated Press reported.

In video from the scene, several bodies and bicycles were strewn along a bike path alongside Chambers and West streets. A white Home Depot truck with the front end smashed in was also visible. Police are searching the bike path for additional victims.

The incident happened near both Stuyvesant High School and Borough of Manhattan Community College.

SWAT officers reportedly clear several of the lower buildings on the nearby waterfront and cordoned off the area in order to capture anyone fleeing the scene, the source said.

"I saw a lot of blood over there". The individual is in police custody and is being taken to the hospital for treatment. The witness added that the truck crashed into a school bus and the driver got out and opened fire.

City Hall said Mayor Bill de Blasio had been briefed about the incident.

The incident is being investigated as terrorism, according to multiple law enforcement sources.
