Mad Men Creator Matthew Weiner Accused Of Sexual Harassment

The ambiguity of those final words leaves me to speculate that the "recent reporting" Harman is referring to here involves the sexual harassment allegations that Mad Men writer Kater Gordon leveled at Weiner yesterday.

Gordon - who says she was inspired to step up after the Weinstein scandal - boosts an Emmy alongside her alleged abuser for "Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series" for the acclaimed show's episode Meditations In An Emergency. Afterward, Gordon says she was afraid that addressing the situation would "end her career". "I eventually walked away instead of fighting back".

Gordon was quickly promoted during her Mad Men tenure from writers' assistant in the first season to staff writer in the third.

Weiner is now in production on his new series The Romanoffs at Amazon, whose head Roy Price recently resigned over sexual harassment allegations. "He does not remember saying this comment nor does it reflect a comment he would say to any colleague", the spokesperson said in the statement. During the nine years he was showrunner on Mad Men, Mr. Weiner had a predominantly female driven writers room. Said Gordon, "I spent a couple days feeling down and feeling upset and aimless". Her confidence was crushed, she said, by an earlier incident involving Mr. Weiner. To revel in misogyny and present it, and to say that I'm being critical of it, has never been my goal. Those experiences made her feel "shame and regret". "I did my best to play along but couldn't divorce him from the comment, and I lost respect", she said.

Gordon has not worked in television since leaving Mad Men, and has launched a nonprofit organization aimed at educating women and helping them deal with sexual harassment. If even a fraction of the current stories we're hearing turn out to be true (and frankly, they all sound credible to me), then she has her work cut out for her.

'He told me I was bad at everything, from my work in the writers room to on set, ' she said of Weiner.

According to The Information, Gordon has shared her story with a number of people over the years, several of whom confirmed what she told them to publication - but she didn't report the comment out of fear that she'd lose her job.

She is now in process of creating Modern Alliance - a non-profit organisation - to help victims of sexual misconduct and harassment.
