Diplo, Sam Smith, and Lil Yachty also chimed in, with Smith calling Peep's death "desperately sad".

Authorities in Tucson, Arizona, have reported that 21-year-old rapper Lil Peep's death was likely the result of a drug overdose. Less in-your-face than many Peep songs, it demonstrates Peep and his producers' overlooked flair for subtlety, with the beat fluidly morphing as Peep plays around with his flow.

From his outlandish taste in high fashion to reportedly waking up with newfound face tattoos, Lil Peep was a polarizing, but important figure in driving the hip-hop culture to new places whether you believed it was for the good or worse.

The entertainer, who's real name was Gustav Åhr, had a history of drug abuse and depression. With a massive cult following that spilled into mainstream adoration, Peep released his debut album Come Over When You're Sober (Part One) this year.

I am shocked and heartbroken. He had one million followers on Instagram and numerous followers on his YouTube page - his video for his song "Awful Things" has over 11 million views. In a video Peep posted on his Instagram page before his death, he said he had taken "six Xanax" and added, "Now it's lit. Life didn't do your greatness justice". "I don't express that side of myself on social media". "It helps. It boosts me, because music saved my life as well". "That's my channel for letting all that shit out".

Following the news of his death, Lil Peep's girlfriend Arzaylea Rodriguez said she wanted to "wake up from this nightmare" in a devastating Instagram post.

Producer Marshmello wrote a heartfelt tribute to him: "Peep was the nicest person. hanging out with him, talking to him about music, the song ideas we were going to do together and touring was so awesome". "Well he was even more f-king great as a person".
