LA County Unemployment Rate Falls to 4.7 Percent

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission believes the state set its all-time high for employment in January 2015, when the estimated number of payroll jobs hit 1,674,800.

The 4.7 percent rate was below the 5.1 percent rate from October 2016.

Humboldt County's unemployment rate in October was the lowest it has been on record since at least 1990 at 3.6 percent, according to California Employment Development Department North Coast Labor Market Consultant Randy Weaver on Friday.

Over the past 12 months, the county gained 40,000 jobs for a growth rate of 0.9 percent, led by increases in health care/social assistance (up 20,000), professional/business services (up 7,800) and construction (up 7,500).

Other sectors reporting job gains in October were leisure/hospitality (up 4,300), financial activities (up 2,100) and professional/business services (also up 2,100).

The statewide unemployment rate for October was 4.9 percent, down from 5.3 percent a year ago.

The seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate in California was 4.3 percent last month, while the national rate was 3.9 percent.

"That's a sign that we have robust job growth in the region", Smith said.

Over the past five months, the state's unemployment rate has remained in the 3.9 to 4 percent range, which are levels not seen in almost 17 years.

The U.S. reported unemployment fell to 4.1% in October from 4.2% in September.
