Ivanka Trump to nod to 'womenomics' in Japan

Ivanka Trump is scheduled to give a speech at a symposium on women's empowerment in Tokyo on Friday morning before having dinner with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that evening, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

"This is my first visit to Japan, and the warmth you have shown us, the beauty of your landscape, and the vibrancy of your culture are truly incredible gifts to all who come to this country", she said. No packed throngs of attendees, though, were seen even 10 minutes before the event began.

Her three-day visit marks Ivanka Trump's first trip to Japan.

Ivanka Trump shared her inspiration while championing women's issues. Policies that create an equal playing field for things like wages, are also needed, along with encouragement for women to study science, technology, engineering, and math, said the 36-year-old mother of three.

Sexual harassment of women should "never be tolerated", Ivanka Trump told an audience in Tokyo on Friday, calling for women to be treated with greater respect at work.

She laid out "four fundamental changes that will propel women into the future" of the global economy, highlighting the real estate developer turned entrepreneur turned senior adviser to the President's work in the West Wing.

In a perhaps strategically beneficial warm-up for the U.S. president - whose popularity recently hit a low of 24 per cent among Japanese - Ms Trump flew into Tokyo on Thursday, just days before her father was due to arrive for the launch of his high stakes Asia tour on Sunday.

"This takes many forms, including harassment, which can never be tolerated", she added.

Gone is the bulky body armor used when facing rioters or risky criminals, to be replaced by smart black suits.

"We opted for a more cultivated look to suit the occasion", an officer who helped plan the security detail said. Trump will stop in Hawaii Friday for a ceremony at Pearl Harbor.
