Is North Korea Preparing For War? Winter Military Drill Preparation Underway

South Korea and the United States on Saturday kicked off a joint naval exercise in the Sea of Japan involving three US aircraft carriers amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Trump on Friday shared a vision of economic nationalism in Da Nang during a speech at the APEC summit, encouraging Asian nations to embrace patriotism.

Kim's regime has continued to carry out nuclear and ballistic missile tests despite widespread worldwide condemnation and a series of crippling sanctions aimed at strangling the state's cash sources.

United States president Donald Trump has insisted that by calling him old, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un had insulted him, adding that he would never stoop to the same level by calling Kim "short and fat".

Earlier in the day, Kim lashed out at Trump in statement and called him a "dotard", meaning very old person.

Trump's address, delivered in front of South Korea's National Assembly, ripped into North Korea for its well-documented violations of human rights.

"The strike force plans to conduct air defense drills, sea surveillance, replenishments at sea, defensive air combat training, close-in coordinated maneuvers, and other training", said a statement from the Navy's 7th Fleet, which is responsible for monitoring the Pacific including North Korea. And do not try us.

"The weapons you are acquiring are not making you safer".

"Every step you take down this dark path increases the peril you face". "That might be a unusual thing to happen but it's a possibility", he explained.

Asked at news conference with Vietnam's president later Sunday if he could become friends with the North Korean leader, Trump replied it "might be a odd thing to happen but it's certainly a possibility". "If that did happen, it would be a good thing for, I can tell you, for North Korea". It could be something that could happen.

He said he doesn't know if that friendship will develop, but added it would be "very, very nice if it did".

Tensions between the U.S. and North Korea have been sharply escalating in recent months with both sides indicating that they will not hesitate to engage in military action.

We'll see what happens now.
