Houston Astros' shortstop Carlos Correa proposes to girlfriend during World Series celebration

On Wednesday night, the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 of the 2017 World Series.

Rodriguez was Miss Texas USA in 2016 and got to throw out the first ball at an Astros game in August. She was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, which is right across the U.S. -Mexico border. "Will you marry me?"

She also had no idea Correa had been urged to put a ring on it by his mother, and he was plotting a proposal for several weeks.

"Right now I'm about to take another big step in my life", Correa said before reaching in his back pocket for the ring.

How did Carlos Correa pull it off?

Correa said he gambled and waited for a dramatic finale to the Astros' first championship year.

"It would have been a good story if I had it with me the whole game, but I didn't", he said.

Rodriguez said yes, once she regained the ability to speak.

After winning the series Correa was being interviewed by a reporter when he took the opportunity to shock baseball fans and propose to his girlfriend on live TV.

"Everyone knew besides me", Rodriguez said. Just won the World Series, .and now I'm engaged. "I was laser-focused on just playing baseball that she would have never thought I was going to propose at that point".

Correa and Rodriguez are living together in Houston with a lovely puppy named Groot. And who were you rooting for throughout the series?

But when he wasn't raking, Correa was getting ready to surprise Rodriguez. He said he talked to a member of Astros' staff during the 9th inning and told him to get the ring.

The Houston Astros are World Series Champions and the city of Houston couldn't be happier.

Correa's proposal calls to mind that time in 2007 when Boise State's Ian Johnson proposed to his then-girlfriend, the team's head cheerleader Chrissy Popadics, after winning the Fiesta Bowl.
