George HW Bush Openly Criticizes Trump in New Book

Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush have never been close to or openly amicable with President Donald Trump.

In this endearing, illuminating work, presidential historian Mark K. Updegrove tracks the two Bush presidents from their formative years through their post-presidencies and the failed presidential candidacy of Jeb Bush, derailing the Bush presidential dynasty. I don't know much about him, but I know he's a blowhard. After Carter said Trump was being given a hard time by the media, the latter thanked him by tweeting his thanks for the "nice remarks ..." He criticized Trump for his lack of humility, which he said was a guiding force among the Bushes: "As you know from looking at my family, it is a certain heritage, that's what they expect, and we're not seeing that". In October, George W. Bush gave a speech in which he didn't mention Trump but lamented these same vices - and politics that "seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication".

"[The founders of the Munich conference] would be alarmed by an increasing turn away from universal values and toward old ties of blood and race and sectarianism".

George H.W. Bush also reportedly called Trump a "blowhard".

Bush Sr. famously skipped Trump's inauguration, citing a health reason and admitted that he voted for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a Democrat, in the 2016 presidential election.

"The American people voted to elect an outsider who is capable of implementing real, positive, and needed change - instead of a lifelong politician beholden to special interests".

He went on to say it was "a unusual election year". His son has been mostly measured in his public comments of Trump.
