Fusion GPS Met With Russian Lawyer Before, After Trump Tower Meeting

Veselnitskaya says she had gone to the Trump Tower meeting to lobby against it.

She added that she is willing to give answers to congressional investigators if her testimony is made public.

In April a year ago, Veselnitskaya took part in a meeting with a visiting congressional delegation headed by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a California Republican with close ties to Russian Federation, that was attended by a senior prosecution official.

Her June 9, 2016, encounter with Donald Trump Jr., President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort in NY plays a key role in allegations that the campaign worked with Russian Federation to defeat Clinton.

We know now as a matter of fact, however, that the June 2016 meeting was held for the explicit goal of getting a dump-truck's worth of Russian "dirt" on Clinton - Donald Trump Jr.'s email chain confirms it.

There have been emails which have been obtained by the press clearly showing Trump Jr. responding to comments that the meeting would consist of dirt being presented on Hillary Clinton.

The two issues became part of Trump Jr.'s initial, misleading response to revelations about the meeting taking place, when he said the campaign was not discussed.

As Veselnitskaya recalled, Trump Jr. offered to review the 2012 Magnitsky Act, which imposed sanctions on a group of Russian officials implicated in the murder of a Russian accountant who exposed widespread government tax fraud.

She claims to have gone to the meeting in order to inform the campaign that she had information to show that major Democratic donors and Russian investors, the Ziff brothers, had donated to the Clinton campaign while evading US taxes.

The U.S. law targeting Russian Federation was called the Magnitsky law and was passed in response to Magnitsky's death.

In the interview with Bloomberg, Veselnitskaya quoted Donald Trump Jr as saying during their meeting, in reference to the Magnitsky law: "Looking ahead, if we come to power, we can return to this issue and think what to do about it".

Ziff Brothers Investments has contributed to Republicans and Democrats since the 2012 election cycle, according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics.

The wrongdoing had been uncovered by Russian lawyer and whistleblower Sergei Magnitsky, who was beaten to death in a Russian prison in 2009 after being arrested for probing Prevezon and other companies with ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russian Federation banned adoptions by USA families in response to the law.

She said Trump, Jr. hadn't familiarized herself with documents she had provided in advance of the meeting. She also said that, if she is asked, she will testify in special counsel Robert Mueller's probe. Jared Kushner-the president's son-in-law and top adviser-left after a few minutes and Manafort appeared to have fallen asleep, she said.
