Four Weddings and a Funeral TV series being developed

Another movie classic is getting a television reboot treatment. Typically with an anthology series the characters change, but the actors do not.

While little is known about the series at this stage, according to Deadline it's slated to span five seasons, each of which will focus on one of the five events of the film (the four weddings and the funeral), with each season focusing on a different set of characters, brought together by one lead role. With this series, they want to keep the lead the same and we think that is a great idea.

Jonathan Prince, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, which coproduced the film, and 3 Arts' Howard Klein (The Mindy Project) are also attached as exec producers.

Mindy Kaling will write and executive produce the series for USA streaming site Hulu. MGM Television will produce along with Universal Television.

Kaling and Warburton will executive produce with the film's screenwriter Richard Curtis. There's plenty of material here to fill a number of seasons should Hulu green-light the show early next year, when a decision is expected.

The American streaming service Hulu will finance the production. Having written aNew Yorker op-ed detailing her deep desire to write a script in the vein of the implausible romance movies she loves so much, this will undoubtedly be something of a dream come true for Kaling. One side of us made us want to stick our umbrella in the ground, throw our tea cups in the air, shout "cor Blimey" and do other English things in anger.
