Former Super Eagles star Michael Emenalo quits Chelsea, set for Monaco

Emenalo's decision is a huge blow to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, who counted the 52-year-old among the few people he trusts and takes advice from.

A former Nigerian global, Michael Emenalo, has resigned from his role as Chelsea's technical director, according to reports coming from England.

The Daily Telegraph report: 'Chelsea suffered a frustrating summer transfer window, which caused tension between Conte, Emenalo and director Marina Granovskaia.

The former Nigerian global, who was in the Super Eagles squad for the US '94 World Cup, could assume a position at AS Monaco. That will likely only become apparent when the power that Emenalo has left vacant at Chelsea is re-assigned.

Chelsea Chairman, Bruce Buck, also added that Emenalo had handed in his papers earlier this week and was leaving only to undertake a new challenge elsewhere. He has had a tremendous impact on the club over the past 10 years and this is evident in everything we have achieved.

The former Nigerian footballer has done well to recruit some big names since joining in 2007, helping Chelsea to eight trophies.

It's understood that Antonio Conte was not an admirer of Emenalo, who was a key player in recruitment, although the latter remained supportive of the Italian coach.

With his help, Chelsea have won the Premier League title three times, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League while Emenalo has been at the club.

Chelsea will review its management structure in the wake of Emenalo's departure but revealed he will be involved in that process.
