CMA Awards Preview With HANK FM's Dave O'Brien

"Right now we're in the middle of 12 shows in 10 days", he told Fox News "We've got four days (where) we're doing two shows a day".

"This year, with the Vegas shooting and the tragedies that have happened and recently, but I feel like in this community, we are so much like family". "We made a game-time call on whether to sing to a track or lip-sync", the singer said. I was talking to Kelsea (Ballerini) backstage about how we get to do this for a living.

Brooks, who won his first CMA for Entertainer of the Year in 1991, noted that he's now having some of the best years of his career while doing it on his own terms.

The victor told PEOPLE exclusively he plans to share the hardware with his wife and crew. George also asked several of the younger artists who they most hoped to meet at the CMAs, and the most common answer was Garth Brooks.

Brooks's win comes following a particularly busy couple of years for the star.

Brooks was backstage with Alecia enjoying the show with his wife, Trisha Yearwood, even holding her shoes.

As for what he's looking forward to coming off life on the road? "We're gonna see. I'm gonna enjoy the night either way". "Can we just give him the Garth Brooks' Award, for being". We call it being wired and exhausted.

Brooks, who earned an MBA from Oklahoma State University in 2011, was dubbed entertainer of the year - for the second consecutive year and for the sixth time overall.

The CMA Awards are on RTV6 in Indianapolis tonight starting at 8 p.m.
