Buhari hosts APC Caucus meeting

The meeting is a prelude to the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party billed for the party secretariat today.

"I hope we can continue to depend on you, If we keep united and rise above petty or personal quarrels, we will surely achieve the desired change in the country, ´´ the President said". From now onwards, it will be focused governance from Mr. President and all the governors from the states.

However, the governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura, expressed a slightly different opinion.

"I have confidence in this President and there is no doubt about that".

"We are the party of the people for the people and by the people and this is democratic environment". So, let's wait and see as we embark on these meetings.

President Alassane Ouattara of Cote D'Ivoire has said President Muhammadu Buhari's recovery from illness is important to West Africa and the entire African continent.

"Mr President invited us for dinner as you know since he came back we have not had the opportunity to meet with him".

"Each of us has our role to play and that is why we are playing it".

He said they discussed how to strengthen existing bilateral relations between Nigeria and cote d'I voire. "We are in good mood and high spirits".

The meeting was one of several meetings he held with members of his party on Monday.

This however failed to sail through.

The caucus is a collection of the leaders of the party in states, unlike the NEC membership which is statutory.

He explained that the Tuesday's NEC meeting was not about the 2019 elections but that there was a motion asking that first, a vote of confidence be passed in the President and then he should be endorsed as the party's candidate for the 2019 election.

But some governors elected on the platform of APC, however, told journalists before the commencement of the meeting that they would support Buhari for second term.

Following the recent development of the sack of one of his in-house cabinet member, President Muhammadu Buhari has, on Tuesday, revealed that he would soon do a reshuffling of his cabinet.

Though the President did not read the speech at the meeting, it was made available to newsmen.
