Baltimore Police officer is shot and wounded

Baltimore police detective Niki Fennoy said Friday that federal agents assisting the department are at the crime scene.

"The shooter knows what he did, and he knows who he did it to - a Baltimore police detective", Davis said at a news conference. The officer approached the man to talk to him and at some point, was shot in the head, police said.

On Wednesday evening, Suiter was in "very, very grave condition" and was fighting "for his life", Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said.

Suiter was survived by his wife and five children, according to WBAL.

A $69,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

"We are doing everything we can to keep [the officer] stabilized and to take care of the injury to his brain", said Dr. Thomas Scalea, chief of the University of Maryland Medical Center's Shock Trauma Center.

"We remain dedicated and committed to finding the person who ended such a handsome life, such a wonderful detective, husband, father and friend", the police commissioner said.

Officers cordoned off streets and combed alleyways as they searched for a shooter. Numerous cruisers responded and a police helicopter buzzed overhead, illuminating streets below with a searchlight.

He was dressed from head to toe, like every other homicide detective in Baltimore is dressed: full suit, tie, badge displayed on his waistband. The department has not disclosed the officer's name. "This kind of violence can not be tolerated", she said.

"We join all Marylanders in praying for Det". Local investigators are being assisted by The FBI, the DEA, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Metro Crime Stoppers.

"Suiter's fellow officers on the Baltimore City police force".
