3 dead in shooting at Colorado Walmart

Authorities in Colorado have arrested a man who walked into a Walmart and opened fire with a handgun, killing two men and a woman on Wednesday night.

A statement from police said 2 males were deceased and one woman was taken to a hospital.

Officer Victor Avila of the Thornton Police Department told Reuters said police were called to the store at about 6.30 pm mountain time (8.30 pm ET) and that the gunshots had ceased by the time the first officers arrived at the scene. "UPDATE: Detectives now reviewing security footage & witnesses being interviewed for assistance with suspect (s) desc/info", police said a short time before they released the photos. "Customers were screaming. They were running like insane, and I ran out too because I didn't want to get killed", he said.

Witnesses at the big box store described confusion and fear breaking out as the shooting started.

Guadalupe Perez was inside the store with her young son when she heard what she thought was a balloon popping. "At that point, everyone was just running and screaming".

Stephens said he did not see where the shooting had come from and did not see anyone struck by bullets. She recalled hearing someone yell, "Let's go".

This comes a day after a terrorist attack in Manhattan claimed eight lives.

"I immediately froze because I didn't know what to think or what was going on", Aaron Stephens explained to CBS 4. "Then I heard two more shots and I freaked out and hit the ground".

This post will be updated as more information becomes available.

Police had yet to identify the victims.
