World Series MVP Ray Knight arrested at Virginia home

Former major league player and manager Ray Knight was arrested early Sunday and charged with misdemeanor assault and battery after police said he was involved in a fight.

Police went to Knight's home in the 7500 block of Ashby Lane in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County about 4 a.m. Sunday. Authorities said that Knight, 64, and the 33-year-old man were acquaintances, WTTG-TV noted. He batted.391 in the 1986 World Series against the Red Sox, earning him the MVP.

Both men had "visible injuries" and were transported to the hospital, police said. Knight was taken to the county's adult detention center after his treatment was later released.

Knight, 64, did not expand on the circumstances of the arrest, which has him due in court on January 8.

The Fairfax County PD also released Knight's mugshot. For the past several years he's been teamed up with Johnny Holiday as co-host of "Nats Xtra" on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network. He primarily works as a studio show analyst.

MASN has not issued a statement following Knight's arrest.

Neither the Nationals nor MASN have offered a comment on Knight's charges at this time.
