Peterson has played sparingly with little success for New Orleans.

In Arizona, Peterson will get a chance to bolster a banged-up backfield that boasts the league's worst rushing attack.

Cornerback Patrick Peterson tweeted "Today is a good day!"

He finished with 81 yards on 27 carries and no touchdowns.

Even though the focus at the moment is Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and they're stellar defense, the Los Angeles Rams received some surprising news on Tuesday when it was announced that Adrian Peterson would be joining the Arizona Cardinals through a trade. He'll join a depth chart that includes Andre Ellington and Kerwynn Williams.

It's been clear since Week 1 that the Adrian Peterson-New Orleans Saints marriage wasn't going so well. But the Cardinals don't have to keep him past this season (he's under contract through 2018) and maybe he can improve things while David Johnson heals.

Peterson, who is also 32, signed a two-year, $7 million deal with New Orleans in late April, after getting little interest on the free agent market. Per Football Outsiders, Peterson is downgrading from the league's 11th-best run blocking offensive line to its 24th.

With Ingram still handling the workhorse duties on the ground and Kamara giving Sean Payton and company a valuable weapon on every down, Peterson hanging around didn't make much sense for either party. Peterson, who captured the NFL MVP in 2012, is a four-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year (2008, 2009, 2012 and 2015), four-time AP first-team All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection.
