Tamil Nadu: VK Sasikala meets husband for the second day

The 74-year-old chronic liver disease patient is stable after the seven-and-a-halfhour kidney and liver transplant surgery that began on Tuesday night, said Institute of Liver Diseases and Transplantation director Dr K Ilan kumaran. She and Dinakaran left for Chennai in a private auto from the jail at Parapanna Agrahara, on the southern outskirts of Bangalore.

After almost eight months in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru, AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala walked out on Friday afternoon on a five-day emergency parole.

Though Sasikala and Natarajan had been living separately since 1990s, he had accompanied her when she surrendered before the prison authorities on February 15 after she was convicted in the Dearness Allowance case.

The Tamil Nadu police have installed surveillance cameras at strategic locations, including roads leading to the memorial of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, to make sure that any violation of parole conditions is recorded. The sidelined AIADMK leader and Sasikala's nephew TT Dhinakaran was present during the parole hearing. As per conditions on parole, Sasikala has been directed to keep away from all political activities and only visit hospital to meet her husband. A senior officer from the Prisons Department said, "We are waiting for documents produced by sasikala to be verified".

Textile minister of Tamil nadu OS Manian has said that he would meet Sasikala when she will be released. The Palaniswamy government, citing law and order problem, has even ensured that Sasikala is kept out from the Poes Garden residence where she was a permanent resident for over 30 years.
