Shin Megami Tensei 5 Announced, Exclusively For Nintendo Switch

Atlus has officially announced that the next entry in the long-running Shin Megami Tensei franchise, Shin Megami Tensei V, will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. We see them both in a peaceful, modern-day version of a Japanese train station, before shifting to a more gruesome version of the streets of Tokyo. That should bode well for Shin Megami Tensei V's release hopes in the West, though no formal announcement has been made yet. Shin Megami Tensei has always been a bleak and bloody affair, so you should expect nothing less from this continuation of the series. This is old news, but it's weird to see the Unreal Engine icon on an SMT game.

The game's development had been announced at the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 event back in January, as a project to celebrate the Shin Megami Tensei's 25th anniversary. It will mark the first numbered game since 2013's Shin Megami Tensei IV on the 3DS - a spin-off tieing into the same story, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, released last Fall. With so little information on the upcoming title, it's impossible to know anything for sure.
