Michael Bay to helm 'Dora the Explorer' live-action movie

Have you ever noticed your kid watching Dora the Explorer on Nickelodeon and though, "That needs to be made into a live action movie by Michael Bay?".

It may seem like an unlikely choice, given that the filmmaker is responsible for the critically reviled yet commercially successful Transformers franchise, along with Pearl Harbor, Armageddon and The Island. We'll have to wait and see just how the live-action Dora the Explorer film turns out.

Dora the Explorer aired on Nickelodeon for 172 episodes from 2000 until 2014. Will Michael Bay insist that they blow a bunch of stuff up while the star spangled banner waves triumphantly in the background? The producer/director has a reputation for gung-ho action and biblical amounts of explosions.

Bay's Platinum Dunes label and his partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are reportedly producing the movie with director Nick Stoller, who will be penning the script. However, Stoller also wrote and produced The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted, and he recently wrote the Captain Underpants movie. The series followed the seven-year-old Dora as she went on adventures with her monkey companion Boots and attempted to stop a villainous fox named Swiper.

It appears that Bay's concept will have little to do with little Dora, though, since this new project will skip her childhood and plunk her into her teens.

How many of your younger cousins will you be roped into seeing the Dora movie with?

No release date for the Dora movie has been announced, though the company is hoping to get it out by 2019.

Other than having Nick Stoller and Michael Bay on staff, there is no other concrete information yet to be had on Paramount's "Dora" movie.
