Mesut Ozil's agent reveals 'positive' contract talks

The agent of Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has declared that his client's ongoing contract negotiations with the Gunners remain "positive", with the club still looking to avoid a situation whereby the World Cup victor can leave as a free agent next summer.

Ozil's contract in north London expires at the end of the season, meaning he would be free to talk to outside clubs from January, although the Gunners are hopeful of securing the midfielder's future before then.

Now the report is claiming that Ozil is facing the prospect of taking the offer because no other club is willing to match or beat it.

Arsenal will play Watford at 4.30am Sunday in the English Premier League.

Jose Mourinho's Manchester United were seen as a possible destination as well as the major clubs in German and Spain.

Besiktas have also been linked with the former Real Madrid star and, while his agent confirmed Ozil was happy to hear of the interest from the Turkish club, he is determined to remain in the Premier League for now. "Our contact [talks] with Arsenal continue and are going in a positive way", Sogut is quoted as saying by the Independent.

Ozil, who has been struggling with a knee inflammation problem in recent weeks, has been limited to just five appearances in all competitions for Arsenal in the 2017-18 campaign.
