Maryam Nawaz, Captain Safdar appear before court once again

These voices echoed the courtroom following a scuffle broke out between the federal police and PML-N lawyers outside the court premises.

The police had only allowed selected persons to enter the complex.

"Since the NAB has not yet received a reply from the United Kingdom authorities, it has made a decision to pursue the matter in person", a source said, adding that the team would make sure its return before October 13 to submit a report to the accountability court in Islamabad in connection with the indictment of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and sons Hassan and Hussain. As soon as the Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir entered the courtroom, a number of lawyers associated with the PML-N forced their way inside, surrounded the judge's bench and started complaining loudly that they have been manhandled by security forces outside the court when they tried to enter the courtroom.

Maryam Nawaz and her husband Capt (retd) Safdar reached the judicial complex separately on Friday morning.

Maryam Nawaz arrived at accountability court amid tight security. However, she added that since both of them reside overseas, therefore, local laws did not apply to them.

Manzoor said that the Friday's incident had reminded the people of PML-N workers attack on the Supreme Court when the then Chief Justice had to leave his chamber to save his life.

Once Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) supporters and lawyers found out that the hearing had been adjourned, the crowd dispersed. According to a court official, Safdar petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to pre-empt the indictment but the court rejected his plea. He set Oct 13 for his, Maryam and Safdar's indictment.

The former Prime Minister did not attend the hearing as he is in London with his ailing wife, Begum Kulsoom.

Hussain and Hassan have not appeared before the court on any hearing since the trial began last month.

After appearing before the court Maryam had said that she was not afraid of getting arrested.
