Manchester City's Aguero in contention for Stoke clash

Following the team's impressive victory over defending champions Chelsea, Pep Guardiola's men will be licking their lips at the thought of facing a Stoke City side that will be missing two key defenders in Ryan Shawcross and Bruno Martins Indi, as well as influential midfielder -Joe Allen.

The Argentina striker was ruled out for between two and four weeks after breaking a rib in a vehicle accident in Amsterdam a fortnight ago.

"Aguero, who was pictured back in light training earlier this week, said: "(On Thursday) I'll rejoin the group and see how I feel, whether I'm comfortable or not".

"Maybe (he can play against Stoke)".

When looking back on the day of his accident, Aguero said: "When a player has a free day at Manchester City, most of the players go to London, others to Italy, some to Spain".

He said of Mendy: "He is a guy on the pitch who is so important but especially off the pitch, we were a good team last season and had good guys but we were quiet and I think he is a guy who can help us to make our lives happier". City are now above United by the virtue of a superior goal difference.

"Of course he is not 100 per cent but he has recovered quite well".

The City captain suffered a calf injury playing for Belgium at the end of August and hasn't played since City's 2-1 win at Bournemouth.

"He is much, much better but still injured", Guardiola added. Hopefully he's in the last part (of his recovery). "I've told him, he can come in the locker room every day, he should be with us and he is a special guy".
