Lin-Manuel Miranda Drops New Single

Lin-Manuel Miranda gathered a ton of Latino celeb music makers and artists for "Almost Like Praying", a benefit song released on October 5. All proceeds from the download and stream go to The Hispanic Federation's disaster relief fund. "The only reason this made news is that normally my Twitter is full of dog videos and dad jokes and audio snippets of my son making up songs".

With videos and web links, Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón and Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda have put their considerable financial and creative muscle behind disaster relief efforts in Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Those with an admiration for musical theater, like Tony Award-winner Miranda, will instantly recognize the song's titular hook as a heartfelt reference to an iconic lyric from the West Side Story classic, "Maria". "So my mind began flipping lyrics from "Maria" to figure out how we could flip this tragedy into something positive". So my brain was already looking for a sample to flip.

"Almost Like Praying" is an eclectic fusion of reggaeton, rap and salsa.

"The song got written in that awful silence where no one was hearing anything and anyone with family on the island or friends on the island can relate to this", Miranda tells ABC Radio.

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda teamed up with almost two dozen Latino stars to make a fundraising song for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. It culminates in a harmonized refrain of "Puerto Rico". But one of the ones that broke my heart was actually not the story but the headline.

Trump was also slammed for his remarks comparing the death count of 2005's Hurricane Katrina to the crisis in Puerto Rico following two devastating hurricanes. "Hopefully, these towns never feel forgotten again". And the fact that it took so long to get any help out there, that's what I mean. "That gives you an example of the effort and the cooperation involved".
