Journalist Mark Halperin is accused of sexually harassing five women

Multiple women have come forward to accuse veteran political journalist Mark Halperin of sexual harassment, according to a report published by CNN on Wednesday evening. For that, I am deeply sorry and I apologize. He's now an analyst for NBC News.

CNN reported Wednesday night on women charging that Halperin engaged in inappropriate behavior at ABC ranging from propositioning junior staffers to groping and pressing his erection against women while clothed. He denied some of the more lurid allegations in CNN's report but apologized for pursuing relationships with women that he worked with and any "inappropriate" behavior.

"HBO is no longer proceeding with the project tied to the untitled book co-authored by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann on the 2016 Presidential election", HBO said in a statement (via Variety). One woman said that she told a mentor about what had happened, but it's not clear if upper management at the network were ever informed.

"I went up to have a soda and talk and - he just kissed me and grabbed my boobs", the woman said.

Another woman, who was 25 years old and employed by ABC News at the time, described similar behavior by Halperin during the 2004 campaign cycle.

Tiger Bay announced that Mark McKinnon, one of Halperin's co-stars on the Showtime political series "The Circus", will take Halperin's place at the event.

During his tenure at ABC News, Halperin authored a daily political news roundup called The Note, which became a must read in Washington and among political junkies, and a forerunner to media outlets use of digital newsletters.

Halperin's bestselling book about the 2008 election, "Game Change", was adapted by HBO into a film starring Julianne Moore and Ed Harris.

'Under the circumstances, I'm going to take a step back from my day-to-day work while I properly deal with this situation, ' he concluded.

The claims against Halperin come just weeks after ex-studio head Harvey Weinstein (left) was accused of sexual harassment and rape.
