Jammu and Kashmir: Two LeT Terrorists Killed in Pulwama Encounter

While the police said that civilian was killed in the crossfire between the security forces and the holed up militants, the locals alleged that he was deliberately targeted by the security forces.

The house in which the duo was trapped suffered extensive damage in the fire fight.

Jammu and Kashmir Police had been tracking the movements of Shah, who is considered as the "don" of Heff, another stronghold of militants in South Kashmir's Shopian district. They have been identified as Wasim Shah and Hafiz Nisar.

Shah, who was needed in different related cases of terrorism, was massacred alongside Nisar, another neighbourhood kid who had joined the terrorist group in May 2017. "He was involved in number of FIRs viz 19/2014, 37/2014, 47/2014, 27/2015, 17/2016, 45/2016 30/2017, 02/2017, 50/2017 of P/S Zainapora and 107/2014, 130/2014, 87/2015 of P/S Shopian", the police spokesman said. Some media reports termed him to be Shah's bodyguard. According to the reports, the slain militants belonged to Pakistan-backed terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Of late, Shah, who carried a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, was recruiting fresh cadres for the militant outfit.

Thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of youth at their ancestral villages in south Kashmir.

IGP termed killing of Waseem as a major achievement for security forces and severe jolt to Lashkar. The 25-year old civilian, identified as Gulzar Ahmad Mir son of Ali Mohammad Mir, resident of Allaipora, Lassipora lost his life in the cross firing and one more civilian who was identified as Mohammad Ashraf Mir son of Mohammad Abdullah Mir resident of Litter also sustained injuries. Chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, they clashed with the security personnel by pelting stones on them.
