Indian team announced for T20 series against Kiwis

After a 1-1 series draw against Australia, the hosts will look to clinch a series win with the veteran pacer Ashish Nehra making his final appearance in worldwide cricket for India. He announced the same earlier this month. The left-arm veteran pacer has been picked only for the Delhi match. The chairman of selectors confirmed that "there is no assurance" from the selectors' side.

"We can't say that [if he will surely play in the Delhi T20I]".

Prasad stressed whether Nehra, 38, figures in the playing XI "is entirely up to the team-management and the selector on call". The think tank involved will be taking a call.

The selectors have more or less retained the same Test squad that went to Sri Lanka, but Ishant Sharma - owing to his fiery spells in the Ranji Trophy (5/38 and 3/20) against Assam and Railways respectively - has rolled back to the national side. "It will be decided on that particular day".

Virat Kohli will lead the team as expected and Ashish Nehra will be a part of the squad only for the first T20I against the Kiwis as he retires at the Ferozeshah Kotla. He recently enjoyed a string of success for India A across formats, scoring 140*, 65, 108, 82 and 90 against New Zealand A and South Africa A. In 53 career T20 matches, the right-hand batsman has scored 1289 runs at 26.85 with a batting strike-rate of 128 and with nine fifties. "This message has been clearly communicated and we are very happy that the player also needs to take it in the right spirit that the new generation is coming up", Prasad added.

Opener KL Rahul, who was dropped from the ongoing three-match ODI series, has been named in the squad as well.
