Howard University safe after active shooter scare

Authorities are responding to reports of a shooting at Howard University in Washington. Police are now conducting a sweep of campus.

The school tweeted that the admin building was evacuated after an anonymous report of a shooter.

At 1pm, police were still sweeping the area.

This news arrives in the midst of Howard's 150th homecoming celebration.

One Washington Post worker refered to a companion who takes a shot at campus who seemed to affirm the shooter's essence.

University President Wayne A.I. Frederick said there was no evidence of a shooting, as of 12:40 p.m.

"Nothing found", the Metropolitan Police Department said on Twitter. So far the threat has not been confirmed and there are no reported injuries.

People in the area are advised to take precautions.

On Tuesday morning, panicked students took to social media in confusion after not hearing from university officials as the reports unfolded.

One of the calls was made to the Howard University College of Medicine about the potential shooter. Joy said university officials then received a call of a shooter at the college's School of Medicine, in addition to other buildings on campus.
