Fresh ground turkey sold at Weis Markets and Aldi part of recall

The not-food-in-food recall was announced Monday night and covers 38,475 pounds of ground turkey, according to the Miami Herald.

All the recalled turkey was sold in white Styrofoam trays covered with clear plastic. Aldi packages being recalled display the first 4 digits of 7268 and 7269.

The problem was discovered on September 27, 2017, when the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service was notified by plant employees performing sanitation on processing equipment.

Prestige Foods, Inc, which packages the food under the Publix brand, says the ground turkey packages in question were produced between September 25 and 26. The USDA reports metal shavings were discovered in a package on the same day.

The turkey was shipped to stores in Florida, Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and should throw them away or returned them.

There has been a recall issued for the one pound package of our Weis Quality Ground Turkey Breast with a sell by date of 10/8/17.
