Fox Recruiting Pirates Of The Caribbean Director For Gambit Spinoff

It looks like 20th Century Fox is ready to press ahead with its oft-delayed X-Men spinoff Gambit, with Deadline reporting that Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, A Cure For Wellness) is in talks to direct the solo movie. Both Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt were attached to the project at different point and both dropped out all while star Channing Tatum has remained dedicated to the film's development.

We here at CinemaBlend will keep you updated on how the Gambit movie is progressing as more updates come in. Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) exited in October 2015, while Liman (American Made) left in August 2016. After starting his feature film career with a pair of ho-hum efforts in Mousehunt and The Mexican, Verbinski broke out huge with his English-language adaptation of Japanese horror The Ring.

The film will see Tatum play Remy LeBeau, the suave mutant from New Orleans who can turn objects into projectiles, including, yes, a deck of cards. Fox tried to give audiences what they wanted in 2009's ill-fated X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but the movie was an absolute mess and Taylor Kitsch's portrayal of the superhero was not good, Monday ami. However it was his work on Disney's billion-dollar Pirates of the Caribbean franchise - of which he directed the first three films - that really brought him success.

Tatum is producing with partner Reid Carolin through their Free Association production company, along with Simon Kinberg. The scrupt was written by Josh Zetumer.
