Braid-chopping continues amid clashes in IHK

Separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest while JKLF chief Yasin Malik was arrested from his residence to prevent them from leading protests.

Shutdown was also observed in other parts of Kashmir including Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama, Budgam, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla. Local people have set up vigilante mobs to keep surveillance against braid choppers in different places of Kashmir Valley.

ISLAMABAD:Jamaat-e-Islami, in Indian occupied Kashmir, has said that braid chopping incidents are aimed at creating an atmosphere of fear and harassment among general masses in the territory.

It is reported that braid choppers either forcibly grab the women and cut their braids off or spray some chemical on the women's faces and cut the unconscious victims braids off. The J&K Police had constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the matter, but has so far it has not able to achieve any breakthrough.

However, in many instances innocent people have suffered at the hands of the mob. In Tral area of south kashmir, members of Citizens Council took out a protest rally after afternoon prayers against braid-chopping incidents.

The Hurriyat had given a call for protests against the rising incidents of the braid chopping.

They were demanding authorities to nab the culprits behind these heinous crimes.

Police said that the group was travelling with the help of Google Maps which led them across a link road to city center Lal Chowk. Subsequently a police party rushed to the spot and chased away the stone pelting youth. Clashes were reported between protestors and Indian forces in Seer Hamdan area of Srinagar till last reports came in. A large number of people mostly women had gathered in Batamaloo raising slogans against braid chopping incidents.
