Arsene Wenger: I could sell Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in January

Neither player appears to be close to signing a new deal with the club, and both Ozil and Sanchez's current contracts are set to expire next summer.

Ozil has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce while Jose Mourinho is keen to bring him to Manchester United but Wenger insists the German wants to stay with the Gunners.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has previously insisted that the Chilean worldwide would see out the remainder of his deal but on Thursday, the Gunners manager claimed that the club were open to selling their star man at the start of 2018.

Arsenal had accepted City's £60 million offer for Sanchez on deadline day but pulled the plug on the deal after realising that they were unable to sign a replacement in time. "Once you're in our kind of situation, we have envisaged every solution, yes".

He said: "I always said that the fact that we didn't find an agreement a year ago doesn't mean the player will necessarily leave".

"Both [Ozil and Alexis] look happy here and overall I hope that the situation can be turned around". "At the moment, we are not close enough to announce anything".

However, Ozil's agent Dr Erkut Sogut said earlier in the week that the Germany global wanted to play in the Premier League for another two to three years and that talks with Arsenal "are going in a positive way".

Wenger is anticipating that Sanchez will be in a very low mood when he returns from the worldwide break.

Asked if he was anxious about Sanchez's mental state, Wenger said: "I will have to speak to him".

"It was very physical and mentally I will have to assess the situation".
