American Cancels Flight After Loading Equipment Catches Fire

However, the fire did not extend to the plane.

An American Airlines aircraft on Monday caught fire at the Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok worldwide airport as cargo was being loaded.

"When a loading vehicle was loading cargo onto the plane it caught on fire", a police spokeswoman said, adding that it was an empty American Airlines flight.

Amateur footage and images showed flames and smoke rising from the container, and firefighters tackling the blaze from the tarmac.

A spokesman for American Airlines has confirmed the fire was caused by a "mechanical issue", and the flight to Los Angeles has been cancelled.

It works by taking a photo of passengers when they arrive in Hong Kong and that is compared with the photo on their passports.

Thomas said the operator of the equipment is being treated for "non-life-threatening" injuries.

The Boeing 777 had not yet boarded, so no passengers or crew members were injured during the incident.

According to the Daily Mirror, American Flight AA192 was being loaded with cargo for a journey to Los Angeles from Hong Kong International Airport at around 5 p.m. local time when the incident occurred.
