Teacher Called Her Out For Menstrual Blood. She Killed Herself

After the girl's death, the teacher is now facing charges of abetment of suicide.

The girl's ordeal, however, was not over as she was taken to the Principal's cabin, where she was mocked and scolded for not knowing how to handle herself during menstrual cycles and given an alleged disciplinary lecture for staining her uniform, reportedTimes Now.

The Class VII student jumped off a neighbour's terrace - which was 25 feet high - in her hometown in Palayamkottai in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.

The girl in her letter said her friends told her that her bench and uniform were stained with her menstrual blood.

The police, however, sought to give it a different spin, saying the suicide did not have a menstruation angle but was because of frequent scolding by the teacher for her poor academic performance.

Although the incident sparked protests from the parents of the pupil and members of the public, there have been no arrests yet as the issue is been investigated by the police. Also the FIR did not mention the name of the teacher as the suicide note did not name her.

"I do not know why my teacher is making complaints against me".

"She asked my daughter to lift [the] top of her salwar [kameez] up and then gave her [a] duster cloth to use as a pad".

In the suicide note accessed by The News Minute, she said: "Did I ever get reported when I was in Class VI?"

It has been reported that around 20% of Indian girls drop out of school when they reach puberty because of the inconvenience in managing menstruation and the stigma attached with it.
