Romelu Lukaku issues warning to Zlatan Ibrahimovic ahead of his United return

Zlatan Ibrahimovic simply doesn't do understatement.

"He's always been the same; a man that wants the best out of the players every day".

The 35-year-old, who is expected back in December, signed a new one-year deal in August following a fine debut season in England where he scored 28 goals in 46 games.

However, with the presence of Ibrahimovic looming over him, will he be resigned to the bench in favour of Ibrahimovic?

The 36-year-old will have to compete with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford for a place in Mourinho's starting lineup upon his return to full fitness, but we won't count against him making sure that he's the alpha male of United's striking contingent when he does fully recover.

"When the club has a one-year option, it means that the players have one more year of contract so nobody is in the last year".

And, in scoring against Stoke, Lukaku matched a United milestone which some of their best strikers in recent years also achieved. Lukaku believes the veteran's experience and character will benefit the team.

Manchester United do need Ibrahimovic, any club in the world would be happy to sign him despite his age and the serious injuries that he is coming off.

Mourinho has maintained since handing fresh terms to Ibrahimovic that the experienced striker will not be ready for competitive action until January. He has, however, been included in United's Champions League squad and there have been suggestions that he could come back into contention before the end of 2017. Ibrahimovic will know himself that he will not be the main player of the team like last season, and that his role will not be as vital.
